Manufacturing, Supply, & 'J' Divisions

At the January 2023 general membership meeting, Business Manager Christopher Erikson appointed Richard N. Duva Jr. as Assistant Business Manager of the Manufacturing, Supply, ADM, Expediting and ‘J’ Divisions.

Richard was initiated into Local 3 in February 1984 as an “A” apprentice. Prior to becoming an apprentice, he had attended the New York Institute of Technology at Westbury, then both Nassau and Suffolk Community Colleges.

Throughout his apprenticeship, he was active on the “A” Apprentice Advisory Committee serving as a class representative. In addition, as an avid softball player, he played on the Local 3 Softball Team for many years. He became an “A” journeyman in August 1989.

Richard has worked in the industry as an apprentice, journeyman, sub-foreman, foreman, general foreman, and superintendent. He was appointed Business Representative at the September 2013 general membership meeting. At the time of his appointment, he was a superintendent for Thirau LLC, an outside line contractor.

Richard assisted Business Representatives Austin McCann and James Bua in the development of the Outside Line Division. He serves as a member of its subcommittee and assisted with the development of Local 3’s first collective bargaining agreement to cover the outside line jurisdiction and the establishment of Local 3’s participation in the IBEW’s Lineman’s Apprentice Training Program and currently represents the members who work under the Outside Utility CBA.

An active member of the Allied Club of Queens, he has served as a trustee, corresponding secretary, financial secretary, and vice president. As a member, he chaired the club’s St. Patrick’s Day Party, Dinner Dance, and numerous other Allied events. He is also a member of the Local 3 Motorcycle Club, Catholic Council of Electrical Workers and the Keystone Club.

Richard was a member of the Wage and Policy Committee and the Local 3 Election Board. He served as secretary of the Local 3, Laws and Resolutions Committee and was a member of the 2013 Negotiation Subcommittee. In addition, he is a Boot Camp and Apprentice Mentor, and he served as chairman of the Queens PDO Committee, Dodge Report Committee, Job Tracker Committee and Christopher Columbus Festival Committee in 2012.

Richard is a proud third-generation Local 3 member following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Nicholas Duva, and his father, Richard Duva Sr.

Richard is married to his wife, Karen, and he has two children, Krystina and Nicholas, and three grandchildren, Shaelan, Cameron and Emma.
