This time of year, between Thanksgiving and the new year, the affiliated clubs, divisions, and members of Local 3, IBEW step up to give back to our communities and those less fortunate. Service is one Local 3’s greatest traditions and exemplifies our values as well as raises our public image in the hearts and minds of our neighbors and communities.
Starting with the EWMC’s annual International Day of Service on Saturday, November 22nd, the Electrical Workers Minority Caucus of New York City volunteered in two places: one group led by the Santiago Iglesias Educational Society (SIES) at a food distribution center in Washington Heights with New York State Assemblyman Manny De Los Santos, and a second group led by Local 3’s Pride Committee at the Alice Austen House Museum on Staten Island, where they helped landscape the garden and prepare the grounds for the winter. The second group also involved members of the Amber Light Society, Asian American Cultural Society, and the Latimer Progressive Association. On Thanksgiving morning, SIES and the Bronx Acorn Club returned to St. Joan of Arc Church, where they donated clothing and prepared and served a warm meal.

Over the past weekend, the Staten Island Electrical Club (SIEC) delivered donations to food pantries across the borough. On Saturday, December 6th, volunteers from the Sign Division, St. George Association, and affiliated clubs decorated the Electchester neighborhood, including the shopping center and the courtyard on Harry Van Arsdale Jr. Avenue. The Electchester tree, menorah, and kinara will be lit at the celebration open to the public on Monday, December 15th.
