The Bronx Acorn Electrical Club hosted their Super Bowl Weekend Kickoff on Friday, February 5, 2016. The event started at 7pm and was held at the American Turners Club in Throggs Neck, in the Bronx. All who had come to this event in the past remember it being the Bronx Acorn Vegas Night. It was decided that it was a time for a change and Club Chairmen Mike Hernadez and Mike Barreca with the help from their committee members were up for the task. Bronx Acorn President Raymond West Jr took a moment to thank all involved, putting together a new event like this and making it a great success like we always do in Local 3!!!
The event was always hosted around the time of the Super Bowl which is why the committee came up with the Super Bowl Weekend Kickoff. When first walking into the event, the floor is lined with green grass and yardage markers down the hall. On the ceiling a sign hanging stating, ”It’s game time! Welcome to the Bronx Acorn Super Bowl Kickoff!!”, letting you know you are at the event.
As you are welcomed you see lights in the distance and hear live music coming from DJ Ray on the dance floor. Keeping with the football theme the event has a 2016 Madden NFL tournament hosted with two TVs for those looking to play against any challenger. For those who like to tailgate there were two Bean Bag Toss setups just like you would play before you go in to watch the game.
There was a buffet and open bar included for the entire event. The event was hosted by the American Turners Club White Glove Service hosting three bar areas, a catered food court which also sported Max’s Fire Engine Hot Wings if you dared!! The music kept everyone moving throughout the night. Tables and chairs surrounded the floor if you want to take a break and watch. Throughout the event you could purchase a Kickoff t-shirt, football box, or 50-50 ticket.
Looking over the entire room at a glance you could see all having a great time laughing and enjoying the night. The big prizes at the end of the night included: a 55 inch Television, a Galaxy Tablet, $250 prize, a Tailgate Bean Bag Champion and Madden Football Champion Trophy with prizes. President Raymond West Jr. thanked all who came out to support the Bronx Acorn Club and this event. One at the event commented “It was a pleasure to be a part of the first Kickoff Party. Although I miss Vegas Night, it was clearly a night worth remembering. Look forward to being here next year.”
