A Message from Business Manager Chris Erikson Jr.
Employment remains steady in New York City and Westchester County. There are roughly 130 unemployed AJ’s in the city. So far, this year has been a rollercoaster, going from 100 unemployed to open calls for over 150 AJ’s earlier in the spring, to now just over 100 out. Jobs are ending and even more are beginning. Most importantly, our signatory contractors continue to bid new work.
The situation in Westchester is a little different, however. There continue to be 50 open calls for AJ’s. Over 30 NYC AJ’s have taken calls in Westchester to make sure we are manning the jurisdiction. There are a number of important school projects that need to be completed in the next month. If you are currently unemployed or working outside our jurisdiction, please consider taking a call in Westchester as soon as possible to make sure our employers are successful in completing the work and continue winning new work.
This week, Electchester is hosting the annual Night Out Against Crime. It’s another great community event that brings our members together with our neighbors, the NYPD 107th Precinct, and elected officials. Please come, show support, and enjoy a great night.
