DBM and DH Divisions

Derek Jordan became a member of Local Union 3, IBEW in February 1986, while still serving in the United States Marine Corps Reserve after being released from active duty. He was employed by Manhattan Cable TV, which eventually became Time Warner Cable.

Throughout his career, Derek has worked as a cable installer, building maintenance helper, service technician, and construction foreman. He was a shop steward at Time Warner Cable, and years later was appointed Chairman of the Electric Technician (ET) Division. He also assisted on many negotiating committees in the ET Division with Assistant Business Manager Lance Van Arsdale of the Maintenance Department. In March 2007, Business Manager Christopher Erikson appointed him Business Representative for the ET Division.

During this time, Derek attended Cornell Labor College and obtained a certificate from the Cornell Black Trade Union Leadership Academy. He continued his education and obtained a Labor Studies certificate from the Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR) and a certificate from the NYS AFL-CIO’s Leadership Institute program. He continued his education by taking additional credited classes at Cornell University.

In 2020, Derek was assigned Business Representative for the Division of Building Maintenance (DBM) by Business Manager Christopher Erikson.

Derek currently serves as a Trustee for the Officials, Business Representative, Office and Clerical Employees of Local 3 401(k) plan, the Joint Apprentice and Training Committee (JATC), the Educational and Cultural Trust Fund (E&C), and the Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) Fund. He is the Club Advisor for the Veterans Club and represents Local 3 to the IBEW’s 3rd District, and he is a NYC Central Labor Council (CLC) delegate and a Hotel & Gaming Trades Council delegate.

Derek has been a proud member of Local 3 for almost 40 years.
