The Republican Party's tax and spending cuts, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” was passed overnight on Thursday, May 22nd by a one-vote margin (215-214) in the House of Representatives. It goes to the Senate next. The House version of the tax bill extends the Trump tax cuts from 2017, increases the cap on SALT deductions, adds work requirements to Medicaid and SNAP benefits, and phases out tax credits for renewable energy investments into wind, solar, nuclear, and geothermals.
While trying to afford tax cuts for billionaires and corporations, Republicans’ efforts to undo the Biden-era Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) clean-energy tax credits will halt the necessary expansion of domestic energy production, technology, and manufacturing at the expense of work opportunities across the nation for tens of thousands of IBEW members and American workers. The GOP’s tax bill will actually harm their own constituents because the IRA has already spurred most investments in Republican districts.
