The United States federal government has been shut down since October 1st without an acceptable agreement on funding federal agencies and services, threatening thousands of public-sector jobs and the public programs that millions of Americans rely on. As Business Manager Chris Erikson writes in his editorial in the latest Electrical Union World newspaper, the two major parties in Congress cannot come to an agreement because the Trump administration and congressional Republicans are trying to end subsidies under the Affordable Care Act, which will more than double healthcare costs for some 22 million Americans who desperately need it the most. This could increase health insurance prices across the board, regardless if your coverage plan is through the ACA or not.

The AFL-CIO has set up a hotline 844-896-5059 to call House Speaker Mike Johnson, Senate Majority Leader John Thune, both your senators, and your representative and tell them to get to work on ending this shutdown and fixing the looming crisis in healthcare coverage. Make the call now!
