On the morning of September 11, 2001, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers lost 21 members from Local 3 and Local 1212 who were working on the 95th and 105th floors of the North Tower, the 90th and 105th floors of the South Tower, and in the basement of the World Trade Center. Over the 25 years since, Local 3 has lost 34 members to 9/11-related illnesses, and many others continue to deal with lasting effects of toxic exposure while working at or near Ground Zero. At the General Membership meeting in the Auditorium on Thursday, September 10th, and during a ceremony in the courtyard the next morning, a new memorial plaque was unveiled, featuring the names of our fallen brothers. In addition, memorial Masses were held on September 11th and September 12th in the Workers’ Chapel at the Church of St. Francis of Assisi to commemorate all the first responders, building trades workers, and victims who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks and have succumbed to 9/11-related illnesses. Please keep them and their loved ones in your thoughts and prayers, as we vow to never forget.
