A Message from Business Manager Chris Erikson Jr.
This past weekend was another busy Local 3 weekend. The Asian American Cultural Society hosted its annual Lunar New Year event, which was a great success. The club remains a great resource and home for Asian-American members to come together and celebrate the culture and heritage that unites them while supporting our Union, just like all of Local 3's affiliated clubs. We will always embrace our diversity – whether it’s by culture, race, ethnicity, heritage, or religion – as our strength.
Local 3's Sign Division also celebrated its 80th Anniversary this weekend. What a great milestone for an important division of our Union. You see their work throughout our city and they represent us with professionalism and class. Congratulations to our Sign Division members, and keep up the good work.
March is Women's History Month, a great time to celebrate women in labor over 150 years, from the textile mills in New England and the International Ladies’ Garment Workers Union (ILGWU) members in New York City, to labor organizer and activist Mother Jones, to every woman who fought for suffrage and against sex-based discrimination, and countless others. Women continue to empower our Union and strengthen the Labor Movement, and a woman's place is always in her Union. Thank you to all the sisters throughout history, up to today, who make our Union better.
As it is March, we look forward to spring and the thawing of the winter weather and storms we toiled through while showing up to the job every day. Please keep our brave soldiers of the United States Armed Forces in your prayers as our world is once again thrown into turmoil, poised on the edge of war. We were promised peace, but we will always support the men and women who protect our country and keep us safe.
