The Electrical Workers Without Borders North America (EWWBNA) is a life-changing experience, both for the volunteers from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and the people benefitting from direct access to electricity for the very first time. EWWBNA has participated in projects around the world, from Angola to Peru and Haiti. The ongoing NAASGO House Wiring Program in the Navajo Nation, where nearly 10,000 households still survive without utilities, is picking up the pace thanks to the EWWBNA’s help.
Almost 50 members of Local 3 have volunteered in the Navajo Nation over the past two years. They have joined other IBEW local unions and the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA) to fully wire homes and connect meter loops to the electrical grid. As reported during the General Membership meeting on July 9th and in the June 2026 issue of the Electrical Union World newspaper, the reactions from the Navajo people (also known as Diné) have been welcoming, emotional, and spiritual.
