NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo announced back in January an expansion of tuition coverage for middle and low income New Yorker’s who want to continue their education after high school in state and city universities in New York. This proposal will make New York State the vanguard for making college attainable for students from families that earn $125,000 or less annually. Still having to face legislative approval the foundation of the plan is for the state to supplement the existing state and federal grant programs. The idea of tuition-free education is not always widely accepted as the funding comes from taxpayer dollars. But the alternative is an uneducated population who as adults can’t find decent work or any work leading to insecurity, alienation, and vice. Studies show that annual incomes in college-educated households are historically higher than those without.
