Over 1,400 Local 3 electricians are currently working at JFK International Airport’s new Terminal 1 and Terminal 6. It is the largest infrastructure project ongoing within Local 3’s jurisdiction.

The all-international new Terminal 1, which is scheduled to open its first gates next summer, is also the site of New York City’s largest solar-power installation. With 13,000 solar panels, the 6.63 megawatt (MW) rooftop solar array will generate the bulk of energy for a 12 MW localized and self-contained microgrid, the largest of its kind at any airport in the nation. The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey will also oversee the installation of a 12 MW solar canopy covering the long-term parking lot 9 at JFK Airport.
