A Message from Business Manager Chris Erikson
On Saturday evening, nearly 1,100 members and guests came to the Javits Center to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of our Union. To say that the event exceeded everyone’s expectations would be an understatement. We were blown away. First and foremost, my utmost thanks to the co-chairmen, my boy Robbie and Recording Secretary Mike Loreto who have worked on the planning of the celebration for more than a year.
We were joined by NYS Attorney General Tish James and a number of IBEW International Vice Presidents from across the country. Business Managers and Local Union officers from as far away as Washington state and California. Industry partners from NECA and the BTEA, service providers and friends of Local 3. Most importantly, hundreds of members, from retirees to apprentices and everyone in between who made this event a success and all beamed with pride as Local 3 put its best foot forward. I must have heard it 100 times at least, nobody does it like Local 3.
Our history and the progress our Union has made over the last 125 years is unparalleled, and if we keep the Union strong, we will continue that progress for new generations of Local 3 members and our signatory contractors for the next 125 years. On Saturday night we celebrated our past and we’re blessed, but we look to the future with the hope and confidence that our Union and its leadership will continue to serve the membership with integrity and distinction, protecting our standards and benefits, continuing the education and the skills enhancements necessary to embrace the technological changes our industry will face. We will build on our success by being the most skilled, productive and safest workforce in the world. So I urge you all to commit to being a part of our future, sisters and brothers. Commit to being a more active member of this organization to protect your economic security. Lead by example, mentor our young members, and figure out how you can do your part to keep the Union strong.
Again, as your Business Manager, I could not have been prouder of us all, and I extend my heartfelt thanks to all that supported the celebration from across the IBEW and here in NYC. Congratulations, Local 3, on this important milestone. 125 years strong.
