Summer is fully upon us now, and the season at Camp Integrity at Redwood is in full swing. I dropped off my daughter Madeline yesterday for her first time, and she was thrilled about what the next two weeks hold in store for her. Camp Integrity is one of the most unique and wonderful benefits in Local 3. It is a place where the children of Local 3 members spend time away from screens, devices, and the distractions of home, in a safe and educational outdoor environment, making lifelong friends and learning new skills, gaining a greater sense of responsibility, and enjoying a little fresh air. I encourage every member with children to look into this opportunity for next summer. If you want to see the location yourself, the Educational & Cultural Trust Fund is hosting an open house at the camp in two weeks. Please register by August 3rd, and they will provide you with more information on this special cradle-to-grave benefit of Local 3.
At the General Membership meeting on July 9th, Local 3 had the honor of recognizing the two dozen volunteers who have devoted their time and skills to the Navajo Nation, volunteering in the “Light Up Navajo” program on behalf of Electrical Workers Without Borders North America (EWWBNA). This amazing program is helping bring electricity to nearly 9,000 Navajo households. Walter Haase, General Manager of the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA), and Tom Collins from Thorogood Boots made presentations to the volunteers and to Local 3. I also want to personally thank the membership for supporting an action I presented to Local 3's Executive Board, providing a stipend for up to two weeks at a net amount of $1,000 per week for each Local 3 volunteer on the Navajo project. This ensures Local 3 members will be able to continue volunteering without having to use a week or two of personal vacation time or missing work without pay. Our commitment to EWWBNA and this project remains strong thanks to members like you.
