Metropolitan Park is a historic, $8-billion private development replacing 50 acres of asphalt and parking lots surrounding Citi Field in Queens with 25 acres of public park space, an entertainment complex, “A Taste of Queens” food hall, upgrades to transportation and infrastructure, a new Hard Rock hotel and casino, and a $1 billion Community Benefits Agreement. The entire project is expected to create 23,000 union jobs in construction and hospitality. The Hard Rock Metropolitan Park (HRMP) project also seeks to add a third resort tower to the master plan framework.
An important Public Design Commission (PDC) hearing is coming up on Tuesday, October 20th. The PDC reviews projects built on city-owned land. Local 3 members, especially if you live in Queens, can submit letters of support ahead of the PDC’s meeting. The additional third tower, like the project overall, is expected to create more job opportunities for construction workers and union members who are the backbone of New York’s middle class, as well as increased tax revenue for the City and continued investments in Queens.
