A Message from Business Manager Chris Erikson

This week, we mourn our members killed and those who have since passed away due to toxic exposure in the devastating aftermath of 9/11. It doesn’t get any easier. Rest in peace, Brothers.

Thank you to all who braved the weather on Saturday and proudly marched in solidarity in the NYC Labor Day Parade. Once again, Local 3 was out in force and we showed who we are as committed union members with our families and our brothers and sisters. You never fail to impress me and our officers. We are members of the strongest and best union in this city and everyone knows it. I couldn’t be prouder to be your Business Manager.

Finally, we kicked off the election season with a major event on Monday night. The lift is heavy. We have a number of congressional races that we need to win in order to flip the U.S. House of Representatives. We did it for Tom Suozzi last winter, and we can do it again. I can’t stress enough that the soul of America is on the ballot. Our Democracy, as we know it, is in peril. You can’t sit back and allow our freedoms to be taken away. Four years of Trump was a disaster, especially for working Americans and the Labor Movement. We can’t go back. This election will determine the type of government that our children and grandchildren will be forced to live under. The choice is clear: a government that works for all people or a government only to help the rich and powerful. Trump wants to destroy our country by becoming the dictator that he already thinks he is. The Republican Party has failed us and cowers to him, afraid that he will retaliate and punish them if they don’t fall in line.

There comes a time in your life when you will look back in history and ask, How did something that awful happen and how did America let it happen? God forbid our children are going to ask how did you let it happen to them. Now is that time; we must not fail them. Sign up for the volunteer assignments. We all need to do our part, brothers and sisters, because the price we will pay if we fail is too great. It’s everything we value and hold dear as Americans.
