Community Boards are New York City’s most local form of government. They make decisions on public services and land use and recommendations for the City’s budget. There are 59 Community Boards across the five boroughs (map) with up to 50 volunteer members, who are appointed by the Borough Presidents and must reside in New York City and have a “significant interest” in the communities they serve.

The NYC Central Labor Council’s Community Board Initiative (CBI) encourages working people to apply and engage with their Community Boards. Each borough has its own application and upcoming deadline, as follows:
