On Memorial Day weekend, the Veterans Club of Local 3 paid respects to fallen soldiers buried at Cypress Hills National Cemetery by planting flags at thousands of headstones. They were joined by New York City Department of Veterans’ Services (DVS) Commissioner and U.S. Army Captain Yesenia Mata.
On the evening of Thursday, April 30th, Local 3 hosted a special event for military veterans at the Electrical Industry Training Center (EITC). The “Vets4Vets Symposium” was organized by the Union Labor Advisory Network (ULAN) to promote the benefits of union membership for veterans and the Vets4Vets Community Construction Project that seeks to renovate VFW halls and American Legions in the NYC metro area. Business Manager Christopher Erikson Jr. (video), DVS Commissioner Mata, Anne Trenkle of NY Helmets to Hardhats, and ULAN founder Michael Fina also spoke during the event and met with veterans before and after.
As of May 14th, Local 3 has 19 union members recalled into active military service across all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. May they safely return to their loved ones at the end of their tours of duty.
