George White Jr. was elected to the Examining Board in January 2020 to fill the unexpired term of Damon Armstrong after he was elected Treasurer of Local 3, IBEW.
George was born in Harlem, New York to Lorie and George White Sr. He attended P.S. 59 elementary school, Robert F. Wagner JHS and Louis D. Brandeis High School, where he graduated in 1994. He attended Monroe College in the Bronx and received an associate degree in Computer Science.
As soon as George graduated from high school, he entered the workforce with a few odd jobs before he was hired to work at Shea Stadium. He started working for the New York Mets as a stadium cleaner and worked his way up to Grounds Keeper under 32BJ SEIU, where he was also a shop steward.
After getting to know a few of the electricians at the stadium, George inquired about Local 3. He wrote a letter and anxiously waited four long years for a reply and finally got into Local 3 as an “A” apprentice in 2008. During his apprenticeship, George received a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Empire State College Harry Van Arsdale Jr. School of Labor Studies in 2013 and was highly active as the class rep each year. He was a part of the “A” Apprentice Advisory Committee as the head of the Board of Directors.
George continues to be active at events such as the Allied Club St. Patrick’s Day dance, Bread of Life food drive, “A” Apprentice Christmas Party, Electchester Street Fair. He is also an active member of the Labor Day Parade Committee.
After George received his “A” card in 2014, he immediately started teaching G-Pro, Alternative Power and Lutron to apprentices and journeypersons at the old Park Place school. George is now a full-time instructor at the Electrical Industry Training Center.
In 2020 George completed his fourth year of training at NTI, where he has learned to hone his skills as an instructor. George is married to his wife, Latrace, for ten years. They have three children: Daquan, Lorie and Lena.
